THE BREAD BAKER
ALICE is a Brazilian-Japanese, who lived in Japan, Australia and Germany before arriving in the USA in 2008 following her husband’s business transfer. She holds a bachelor degree in Chemistry.
While in Germany fascinated with the tradition of German artisan bread baking and amazed by the varieties of breads offered, she decided to go through a three year apprenticeship program to become a German artisan baker. Alice completed the program in a whole grain organic bakery and received her final certificate Magna Cum Laude by the guilds Wuppertal-Solingen-Remscheid in August 2008.
Today she managed to put together her love for cooking, a strong knowledge in chemistry and a broad life experience overseas. This exquisite formula has created a simple and enthusiastic result: her passion for the art of bread baking and fascination for the science behind this craft.
THE CAKE BAKER
JEANETTE was born in East Berlin, Germany but moved with her family to West Berlin when she was ten years old.
She went through a three year apprenticeship program with the largest insurance company in the world. She then decided to improve her language skill and moved to London as an Au Pair. After her return to Berlin she was rehired by the same insurance company and became a trainer there. During that time she met her future husband, who was stationed there with the U.S. Army and ready to leave Berlin. They kept a long distance relationship for two years when she decided to move to Indianapolis.
Apart from her family she also missed German breads and pastries the most. At the time of her arrival she could not find any variety of delicious pastries she grew up with, so she started baking for her friends and family over here. They kept encouraging her and that is how Zamovar came about. Every Sunday since February 2008, she is the host of Kaffeeklatsch @ Perk Up Café.
